Chicago-based artist, Allie Kushnir, uses her work to investigate the relationship between body and setting, individuals to nature. Through an intuitive approach to mark-making, much of her work involves a layering of organic forms, meandering lines, and fluid bodies of paint. Her paintings express both an awareness and contemplation of the environment and its reciprocal influence on its inhabitants - exploring the spaces we take up, the state of minds we hold, and the effects of such conditions.
Using different mediums - from 3D laser cut wooden sculptures to 2D mixed media paintings - Kushnir finds inspiration in the various fallibilities that make us human. Ultimately, Allie's intention in life and in her work is to find ways to encourage a broader understanding of how we as individuals are part of something larger, influencing our environment at a scale that many of us don't tend to recognize.
Allie believes in a holistic approach to being a conscious consumer and aims to encourage conversation around these topics. Through original paintings, environmentally driven campaigns, a mini documentary series, and various events, she encourages others to engage with their individual responsibility to care for the environment and the individuals most vulnerable to the way we treat it.
